About the Item

LARGE SCALE WROUGHT IRON & CAST BRASS PLAFONNIER WITH RARE JEFFERSON SATIN & CUT CRYSTAL BOWL An exceptional and large-scale church pendant plafonnier, combining a beautifully detailed Jefferson Glass Company satin and cut crystal bowl with a substantial wrought iron and cast brass frame. The design showcases a striking contrast between the crisp geometry of the ironwork and the delicate hand-cut star and swirl motifs in the Jefferson bowl — patterns confirmed against The Jefferson Glass Company catalogue (model 497 C 130). The main ring is constructed from heavy wrought iron, supported by robust cast brass link chains and a three-way cast brass hanger. The impressive 16-inch diameter Jefferson bowl features a polished interior with a satin-etched exterior and precision-cut crystal detailing, producing a remarkable light effect when illuminated by the three-bulb B22 bayonet array. A true statement piece for grand interiors, restoration projects, or luxury country house settings, offering exceptional craftsmanship and presence. Shown alongside our life-size wooden figure (approx. 6 ft tall) for scale reference. Fully restored, rewired, tested and ready for installation. Founded in 1900 in Follansbee, West Virginia, the Jefferson Glass Company was a pioneer in creating opalescent glassware. Their Moonstone range, introduced during the height of their success, showcased a delicate translucence and subtle glow that captured the light beautifully, making these shades highly desirable both then and now. Moonstone glass shades were typically made from milky white or softly colored opalescent glass, often featuring intricate patterns such as floral designs, ribbing, or swirls. The craftsmanship of these shades demonstrated Jefferson’s expertise in manipulating glass to achieve a balance of elegance and durability. They were designed not only to diffuse light gently but also to serve as decorative focal points, making them a popular choice for domestic and commercial lighting during the Art Nouveau and early Art Deco periods. A Timeless Appeal for Modern Interiors Jefferson Moonstone glass light shades remain highly sought after by collectors and homeowners alike, prized for their luminous quality and timeless beauty. Their soft, ethereal glow makes them perfect for creating warm and inviting atmospheres in modern interiors. These shades pair effortlessly with a variety of lighting fixtures, from pendant lights to table lamps, adding a touch of vintage charm and sophistication to any space. Why Choose a Reclaimed Moonstone Glass Shade? Opting for a reclaimed Jefferson Moonstone glass shade allows you to bring a piece of American design history into your home. These shades not only showcase exceptional craftsmanship but also reflect the artistic sensibilities of their era. Their versatility makes them suitable for both traditional and contemporary interiors, where they add a sense of refinement and individuality. Choosing reclaimed lighting also supports sustainable practices, ensuring these beautiful, hand-crafted pieces continue to illuminate spaces for generations to come.
