About the Item
Max Ingrand “1462” ceiling lamp for Fontana Arte, brass and glass, Italy, 1955
Max Ingrand designed the “1462” ceiling lamp for Fontana Arte in 1955. The lamp embodies a futuristic design concept where two seemingly distinct geometric forms belonging to different realms intersect in a seamless union, giving an up-side sensation. The conical bronze structure enters the disc-shaped glass diffuser in a movement of integration, creating a dynamic visual interplay between the two elements. This design concept reflects a sense of duality and harmony, with each part representing two different “cosmos” that converge in a unified, fluid composition. The lamp features a semi-dome transparent glass diffuser, with a frosted glass dome beneath it to gently diffuse the light, creating a soft, warm ambiance. The use of frosted glass, often satin-finished or tinted (typically amber, though various color variations exist), enhances the lamp’s refined aesthetic and emphasizes the unique blending of form and material. The design of the diffuser, with curves resembling a stylized shell or flower, produces a graceful illumination, filling the space with subtle light.
