Mid 20th Century Crystal Maria Theresa Chandelier
About the Item
Mid 20th Century Maria Theresa chandelier. According to lore, the Maria Theresa Chandelier was designed for the Czech coronation of Empress Maria Theresa in 1743. She was so enthralled that she had more made for her Viennese palace and the popularity grew from there.
A frame of flattened metal, consisting of ten arms that connect to a central hub. The arms are covered in blown glass on both sides, connected with rosettes. Each arm holds a single light, and is hung with star cut crystals. The cut of the crystal and the shorter profile of the chandelier present a mid 20th Century, Hollywood Regency take on a traditional form. This piece is complete, crystals in very good condition, and includes chain and canopy. It will need to be rewired before use. Czech Republic, C. 1960
