About the Item

A fine example of a torch cut brass chandelier in the form of two tiered concentric circles by metal sculptor Tom Greene, creating a beautiful patina with an oxyacetylene torch. Each piece that Tom Greene made was unique, no pieces are exactly alike. The construction of the frame work in each piece, the individual cuts that allow different rays of light to come through and the location of the light within the art gives an individual personality to each piece and what it brings to the room. The interior of the lamp will hold one full size light at the base, with three candelabra lights around the interior between the two sheets of brass. Greene began his career while owning a dental prosthetic laboratory in California after doing similar work during his service in the Korean War. It was through those techniques of dental casting that he would begin making jewelry and fixtures using the lost wax method of sculpture. During that time Tom began work with oxyacetylene torches, using the high intensity flame to sculpt metals. Starting in his garage, he requested the opinion of Angelo F. Monteverdi, the co-owner of Monteverdi-Young Furniture Company. The response was overwhelming as Mr. Monteverdi contracted Tom for everything he could make. Monteverdi’s contacts in Hollywood and Las Vegas would lead Tom Greene’s work to be seen with companies and locations including Gruen Lighting, MGM Studios, 20th Century Fox Studios, EuroDisneyland-France, Monte Carlo Hotel-Las Vegas, Hyatt Regency, Trump Towers Casino, Luxor Hotel and Casino, Bellagio Hotel, Disney Tokyo, The Grove, Westin Hotel in Maui and in Kauai, Beverly Hills City Hall, Conrad Hilton, and Princess Cruise Ship Lines. This chandelier is in very good working condition and includes its original canopy, along with approximately 24 inches of chain. Dimensions: 25 in height x 11 in diameter.
