Modernist Chrome and Glass Pendant in the Style of Gispen 1930s

About the Item

Art Deco pendant light in modernist style is in the style of Dutch Gispen lamps, possibly French or Belgium. The lamp is made of two elements, a chrome frame and a frosted glass disk simply resting on the half sphere that mirrors into the glass like a the heart of a flying saucer. Willem Hendrik Gispen (1890-1981) was a Dutch industrial designer and architect, celebrated for his Modernist steel tube furniture and lighting designs. Manufacturers in the early to mid 20th century the company developed new techniques for mass production to create a highly rationalized lighting that conformed to the strictest philosophy of modernism: simple forms, minimal use of materials, practical and uncomplicated designs, and accessible prices. This effort resulted in lighting, furniture and accessories that were innovative and aesthetically spare, but unfailingly modern had a great influence in Europe.
