Monumental 20th Century Pair Of French Gilt Bronze & Crystal Lanterns

About the Item

A monumental early 20th Century French pair of gilt bronze & crystal lanterns. Each features a foliate and acanthus-cast corona above six scroll supports, which suspend a waisted band adorned with female masks and cornucopia. This is positioned above a crown featuring alternating strapwork-mounted acanthus and tragic masks. The circular tapering body is inset with six crystal panels, each etched with a starburst design. The piece terminates in a pierced gallery supported by three winged griffons, encircling a fluted bulbous boss topped with a flame. It has been fitted to accommodate modern day electrics.
