About the Item

The superb chandelier is constructed in a monumental scale with a tiered gilt bronze frame supporting multiple tiers of lights and suspended rock crystal drops. The overall form follows a neoclassical arrangement, with a central cage structure from which twelve scrolling candle arms project, each terminating in gilt nozzles and drip pans. The arms are adorned with acanthus leaf details, and the perimeter is dressed with large faceted rock crystal pendants in teardrop, prism, and spherical shapes. A spherical rock crystal ball hangs from the lowest register, serving as the visual terminus of the piece. The vertical supports are sheathed with beaded crystal strands and enriched with gilt foliate mounts. The surface decoration is achieved through a combination of cut and polished rock crystal elements attached to gilt bronze armatures. The crystal prisms vary in shape, including pear-shaped drops, faceted lozenges, and carved floral rosettes, each secured with gilt mounts. Additional details include crystal rosettes serving as connectors between arms and mounts, along with carved crystal leaves interspersed throughout the frame. The use of naturalistic foliate motifs in gilt bronze emphasizes the decorative interplay between metal and crystal components.
