About the Item

Nippon, ceiling light or table lamp designed by Simon P. Henningsen for LYFA in 1970 - Scandinavian Modern red and black pendant or table light in very good vintage condition. Extremely rare Danish midcentury design piece - a top-tier and internationally sought-after collectors’ piece! A true genius light, designed to be used both as pendant lighting but also as a table lamp. Made up of two metal plates folded rectangular around a bulb socket in the center. The outside is red on one side and black on the other, while the inner is white with two red "suns". Open towards the top and bottom. The Nippon was designed by Simon P. Henninngsen in 1970 as a response to a request from the producer LYFA, to design a light that was less expensive to produce than his previously designs; the Divan 2 and the Kassablanka. Simon P. Henningsen wanted to simplify the shading of the incandescent light-source and created a light with two metal plates folded rectangular around the bulb mount. The first attempts resulted in a cold ambiance, so he added two red suns inside the light, and the name came by itself, Nippon! Very attractive piece that you do not stumble upon every day and with its stylish expression it easily fits in any home, as pendant over a Danish Modern table, as table light on a Scandinavian Modern credenza or perhaps as a statement piece in the living room. This Nippon is very good, near excellent vintage condition with very few signs of age and usage, single owner, label intact. All original, but rewired with 2 m (6' 6.7") high end quality, black fabric cord, for safety and beauty. Tested and fully functional. Cleaned, labeled and packed in protective bag. Light source: One bulb, Edison screw-fitting (E27/E26) Max 75 Watt.
