Pair of Large, Grand Louis XVI Bronze & Crystal Chandeliers, 19th Century French

About the Item

These beautiful, Grand Louis XVI chandeliers are made of bronze and draped with rows of octagonal crystals. The French antique pair dates back to the 19th century and offers details in plenty; the crown is a group of acanthus leaves, cascading to a ring of ribbon and read motif, with bow ribbon at each one of the four arms. The ropes of oval cut crystals are graduated in size from the top to the large pierced center ring, then from the center ring to the bottom finial. There is a pair of acanthus leaf arms at each one of the four sides, joined together by a stylized heart topped by a flame. Floriated garlands are draped from arm to arm to connect each pair. The 8 exterior arms combine with 8 interior lights to provide ample light alongside the more than ample character. Each piece in our shop is professionally rewired and in working order. Each chandelier comes with a vintage canopy, three feet of chain, and ample wire, and is newly wired with UL approved wire and sockets and is fully operable. This pair is part of the collection from The French Antique Shop, a fourth generation antique store in the heart of the French Quarter of New Orleans. A space that was created and curated at first by Marie and Marcelle and Granet. Their first shop was located in the heart of Paris, and opened in 1919 after they migrated to Paris from Romania post World War I. Shortly after establishing themselves in Paris, as a Jewish family they were forced to flee in the late 1930s before World War II. Marie and Marcel opened up their shop in New Orleans in 1939, the city in which this antique collection has grown and continues to flourish. The store is now run by the third and fourth generation, Marc, Michael, and Brian Friedlander, and is a highly curated space filled with rare antiquities, fine antique lighting, eclectic fixtures, and everything in between. We have imported all the antique items in our collection directly from France.
