About the Item

The receiver plate supporting eight candle arms with slip over drop hung drip pans these alternate with upper kick arms these with drop hung canopies and triangular spires, the baluster form stem with corresponding lower and upper drop hung canopies the lower terminating with diamond cut finial, the chandelier draped with oval chain drops and round and pears shaped finals. The chandelier is very unusual because the glass contains Manganese dioxide and lead crystal this deliberately gives the glass an Amethyst tint this being said Nickel depending on the concentration mixed with lead crystal can also give a purplish color. Apart from English and Irish glass which have a high percentage of lead content most glass made in Europe and beyond was soda glass give it a green or yellow tint. 18th century lead glass was also made in Germany, Norway, France and Hungary although this was manly stemware.
