Rare Large 18th Century Swedish Neoclassical Transformable Crystal Chandelier

About the Item

Spectacular late 18th century Swedish Neoclassical transformable chandelier. Originally created for a palatial residence for use with candles, this rare chandelier may be unhooked at the center and transforms to a double tiered pendant chandelier. The lower tier would have been unhooked by a servant to replace the candles in the fixture as described in period literature and films. Superb emerald cut crystal circular body with elegant graduated emerald cut crystal fronds, elongated graduated oval crystal chains, six arms now electrified, adorned with attractive crystal garlands. The long crystal prism elements are approximately 5.5 inches long including the oval top piece. Height: 37 inches Diameter: 28 inches Condition: Very good commensurate with age, age appropriate patina to the metal elements, a couple very slight abrasions, recently electrified. This beautiful style is well suited for both period and modern interiors. The early crystal elements provide exceptional illumination when lit or when reflecting the natural rays of the sun. The patinated metal body is a versatile finish which works with numerous interiors.
