About the Item

Dimensions 12 cm. x 12 cm. x h 9 cm. The "Pyramid" hanging lamps, designed by Paolo Piva for Mazzega (Italy), are an elegant example of 1980s Italian design. Made of blue Murano glass, they have a geometric pyramid shape that gives them an essential and contemporary look. The interior of the glass features regular grooves that create plays of light and shadow, giving movement and depth to the object, avoiding the static nature of the simple form. These lamps combine design with the craftsmanship of Murano glass, resulting in a refined yet decorative look. Two of the five lamps have small scratches in the glass, visible in the last two photographs, but these do not compromise the solidity or the overall aesthetics of the lamps. Also visible in the video. Paolo Piva (1950-2017), is a world-renowned Italian architect and designer. Graduated in architecture from the University of Venice, participated in solo and group exhibitions. In 1975 he collaborated with the Institute of History and Architecture in Venice and the Akademie für Angewandten Kunst in Vienna on a major exhibition on Vienna in the socialist period. In the 1980s he designed the Kuwaiti embassy in Qatar and was involved in the competition of ideas for the renovation of the Lingotto FIAT in Turin. In 1986 he designed the renovation of Remer Palace in Venice. In 1987 he is reported for the 13th Compasso d'Oro Award. In the field of industrial design, he has collaborated with many prestigious companies in Europe and the U.S. Murano- Venice Murano glass is a type of art glass produced on the island of Murano, located in the Venice lagoon, Italy. This glass is renowned for its beauty, craftsmanship and centuries-old tradition. The distinctive features of Murano glass include: 1. Vibrant and rich colors: Murano glass is famous for its wide range of vibrant colors. Artisans use a variety of pigments to create rich and intense shades. 2. Handwork: Murano glass making is an art that requires skill and precision. Artisans follow traditional techniques passed down from generation to generation, often shaping glass by hand with specialized tools. 3. Murrine: Murrine are small sections of stained glass arranged in a specific pattern within a larger sheet. This technique is typical of Murano glass and can be used to create complex geometric designs or images. 4. Lampwork: Some Murano glass objects are created using the technique of "lampwork," which involves manipulating glass tubes heated over a flame to shape them into desired shapes. 5. Transparency and luminosity: Murano glass is known for its crystal clear transparency and ability to reflect light magnificently. This attribute contributes to its beauty and makes it ideal for creating jewelry, chandeliers and art objects.
