Signed Muller Freres four panel nickel + frosted art glass geometric chandelier
About the Item
French Art Deco geometric motif chandelier signed Muller Freres Luneville featuring four unusual shield shaped frosted and molded art glass panels with linear, scroll and geometric patterns and polished details. The glass acquires a subtle glimmer and radiance from the polished areas.
The architectural panels jut upward and slightly outward forming a delicate blossom shape when viewed from underneath. The whole is supported by a streamline nickeled bronze original armature bearing four tubular stem poles beautifully decorated with intricate openwork scalloped designs and capped by a matching geometric motif canopy.
Glass signed Muller Freres Luneville.
Muller Frères, situated in Lunéville, France, were a family of esteemed glassmakers celebrated for their Art Deco + Art nouveau creations, including vases, lampshades, chandeliers, sculpture, decorations. Originally hailing from Alsace, members of the Muller family collaborated with Émile Gallé before establishing their own venture.
In 1895, Henri and Désiré departed from Gallé to establish their own workshop in Luneville. Meanwhile, Jean commenced his career at Gallé's at the age of 24, focusing on crystal engraving. Simultaneously, Camille worked at Daum's and Baccarat before eventually moving to Sèvres. Eugene, Victor, and Pierre became part of Gallé's workshop.
Around 1904, Eugene joined Henri and Désiré in Luneville. In their Rue Sainte-Anne workshop, the three brothers expanded their enterprise, eventually welcoming additional siblings into the fold. They earned a silver medal at the International Exhibition of Turin in 1911 and secured a gold medal at the Lyon exhibition in 1914.
