This antique German pendant is a bit of an enigma, to say the least. This Arts & Crafts, brass and prismatic glass pendant looks very much like the Holophane pendants that collectors around the world appreciate for their wonderful shapes and materials. And although this pendant has the almost exact same shape, is made of the exact same glass (techniques), has the exact same chain and canopy and has the exact same mechanism of opening the lower half (in order to change the light bulb), this apparently is not a Holophane pendant. How the Germans in the earliest years of the 1900s managed to patent this lamp truly is a mystery. On both the upper and lower glass half there are PATENT marks.
