About the Item
A tall, vintage Mid-Century modern pair of Swedish " Uplight " floor lamps made of hand crafted polished brass, designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by Markaryd in good condition. The Scandinavian lights are composed with a white round, open plastic shade. Each is halted by three small brass arms, supported by the stem, and feature a single light socket. The lamps have a round base. Labeled C253 / A Hans-Agne Jakobsson - AB Markaryd at the bottom. The wires have been renewed. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1950 - 1960, Sweden, Scandinavia.

Shade: 5" H x 11.25" diameter
Hans-Agne Jakobsson was a Swedish designer born in 1919, in Havdhem, Gotland, Sweden and passed away in 2009. Jakobsson finished his apprenticeship as a carpenter and after he went to Gothenburg, Sweden to study architecture. When Jakobsson finished his studies, he started working as an Industrial designer for General Motors. Later on, he began working as an assistant for the Swedish designer Carl Malmsten and Werner West. In 1951, Jakobsson founded Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden. Like Poul Henningsen, the Danish designer, Jakobsson is best known for his dimmed, soft lighting.
AB Markaryd was a Swedish lighting manufacturer. The company's history remains lost in history.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson
Hans-Agne Jakobsson was a Swedish interior and furniture designer, who ran his own company from 1951. Jakobsson was especially famous for his lighting designs, which often had a softly glowing light and organic shape. His designs were inspired by great, modern Scandinavian designers such as the Finnish icon Alvar Aalto and Danish lighting master Poul Henningsen.
