About the Item

This striking red tube floor lamp showcases remarkable design elements, including a gracefully shaped base and stem, well-balanced proportions, and refined details such as a small round lens at the top, an elegantly integrated switch within the tube, and sleek steel connections. Primarily designed as a reading lamp, it also serves as an excellent source of ambient lighting. Born in Gothenburg in 1912, Anders Pehrson pursued an engineering degree before joining Philips as a design manager in 1952. Beyond being a talented designer, he had an exceptional ability for public relations. His acquisition of ateljé Lyktan in 1964 marked a turning point for the company, shaping its future success. Pehrson’s design philosophy was built on four key principles: form, function, color, and family, which helped establish numerous design classics that propelled ateljé Lyktan onto the global stage. Pehrson’s passion for innovation led him to a lighting fair in Hannover, where a visit to Volkswagen sparked a defining moment in his career. Seeing rows of brightly colored cars, he realized that lamps, too, could embrace a similar vibrancy. Inspired by this idea, he incorporated bold and diverse colors into his lighting designs, leaving a lasting impact on the industry.
