Dopo un apprendistato come argentiere alla Kunstgewerbeschule di Zurigo, Carl Jakob Jucker completò il corso preliminare allo Staatliches Bauhaus di Weimar sotto Georg Muche nel 1922/23, prima di trasferirsi nell'officina metallica di Christian Dell e László Moholy-Nagy. Le lezioni lì gli hanno dato impulsi decisivi per i suoi progetti di illuminazione. Ha sviluppato apparecchi di illuminazione per la Haus am Horn di Weimar, una casa modello che nel 1923 doveva riunire vita moderna e architettura moderna.
