By Hugo França
Located in Deerfield Beach, FL
This lounge chair is an unique piece in pequi wood made in Brazil in 2017, by contemporary designer Hugo França, famous for his sculptural furniture using reclaimed wood and preserving the organic forms of the tree. This piece was originally a canoe manufactured by the Pataxó indigenous people, in south of Bahia, Brazil. In the early 80s, Hugo França abandoned his previous career as an industrial engineer in São Paulo to be closer to nature, moving to Trancoso, Bahia. Witnessing from up-close the rampant destruction of the local Atlantic Forest greatly impacted him, motivating his current work as a designer. França reverences the very trees salvaged by him as his main inspiration; he works intuitively, allowing his creative process to be guided by each tree’s organic...

On the occasion of Fuorisalone 2019, Italian-Brazilian designers Ronald Sasson, Giorgio Bonaguro and Gustavo Martini decided to continue their common exhibition project, strengthening the link between Brazil and Italy, in which their styles interact to tell different stories around a single precious material that will marble again. But with a big difference: to emphasize the relationship between the two countries the raw material will be totally Brazilian. Michelangelo Marmores do Brasil, an important marble quarry and industry from the region of Paranà will team up with the designers and with Marimar, a strong marble company from Verona. Different kind of tropical stones, chosen from Michelangelo's materials, with their original and particular textures, will be transformed into sculptural products thanks to the expert Italian craftsmen from Marimar. The exhibition is taking place at Carte Scoperte Gallery, an illustrious Milanese art...
