About the Item
A rare sculptural floor lamp by the French designer François Monnet (b. 1946) for KAPPA France, a French furniture design house and manufacturer specializing in innovative and avant-garde mid-century designs in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Monnet was known for his work using folded stainless steel both in furniture and lighting. The lamp shown here is one of his finest examples of French mid-century space-age design that is simple and functional yet elegant and appealing.
The lamp consists of 2 chromed stainless steel shaped sheets folded unto themselves into a tubular form and supported and attached to the base by a central steel pole on the backside. The interior part is patinated white.
Except for a few insignificant and minor scratches and knicks, we consider the lamp to be in excellent condition given its age. Truly a beautiful and unique lamp evoking that mid-century spirit of modernism and distinction.
