About the Item
Large Joseph-André Motte J14 floor lamp in gunmetal and gray marble for Disderot.
Originally designed in 1957, this sculptural floor lamp is a newly produced numbered edition with authentication certificate made in France by Disderot with many of the same small-scale manufacturing techniques and craftsmanship as the original run. Executed in high quality metal, marble and double layer opaline glass.
Joseph-André Motte was born in 1925 in the Hautes-Alpes but it was in Paris at the School of Applied Arts to Industry that he studied under the direction of Louis Sognot and Rene Gabriel, two of the great masters of French modernity. He graduated from his class in 1948 and in 1952 he joined the studio of the third French master, Marcel Gascoin. It is there that he meets Pierre Guariche and Michel Mortier with whom he develops a friendship and a deep professional complicity. Together they created the Atelier de Recherche Plastique (ARP) in 1954 to present French-made practical, comfortable, modern furniture at a reasonable price. His great capacity for formal invention is often copied, and his style remains emblematic of French twentieth century design.

Available in unlimited quantities in choice of gunmetal, chrome, polished or brushed brass stem as well as gray or black marble base. Also available in a smaller 64.9" tall model.

Accommodates 1x 75W equivalent standard medium base LED bulb. Not UL listed, but recommended UL listing possible from authorized 3rd party vendor upon request for an additional fee.
