About the Item
The Floor Lamp designed by Maria Lindeman for Idman in Finland during the 1950s represents Finnish mid-century modern at its best. Lindeman's masterful touch is evident in this piece, where modernity meets luminosity, creating an illuminating presence that captivates any space. Maria Lindeman, a native of Viborg, Finland (Viipuri), completed her studies from 1939 to 1945 at Taideteollisuuskeskuskoulu, which is presently known as the Aalto University School of Arts, Design, and Architecture in Helsinki. In 1953, Idman acquired the majority of shares in Taito Oy. Idman manufactured lighting by famed designers such as Tapio Wirkkala, Mauri Almari, and Paavo Tynell. That same year, Lindeman participated in a lighting fixtures competition organized by the Idman company, which ultimately led to her securing a full-time position as Idman’s artistic designer.
