Pair of Large 17th Century Italian Torchiere Polychrome Figure Floor Lamps

About the Item

Superb large pair of floor standing 17th Century Venetian torchiere figures. Solid hand carved figures with beautiful polychrome gesso painted finish and areas of mecca gilding, popular in the 17th Century. The robes of the figures are made with the ingenious method of gesso soaked fabric set into place. The cornucopia torchiers have been fitted with later wired lamp fittings with glass flame shades. The figures have had repairs and retouching over their 300+ years but retain the essence of the original finish. Circa 1670.
