About the Item

Rosmarie & Rico Baltensweiler type 600 floor lamp designed in 1951. Switzerland, current production. The Swiss lighting company Baltensweiler is a real family business that has been making special quality lamps since 1951. The Type 600 was their first lamp design and since 1951 the lamp is distributed in exclusive furnishing houses and specialised shops. In the past in series of 100 to 500 pieces, today for lovers of design in smaller series. Founders Rico (1920 - 1987) and Rosmarie Baltensweiler (1927 - 2020) actually designed their first lamp for their own use in their apartment in the old city bath of Lucerne, their living and working place. The lamp was positively received by friends and acquaintances and they decide to make it in a limited edition. The Type 600 is a stylish and very strong lamp design: an archetype of mid-century design. The production of the lamps is a success. The famous architect and designer Le Corbusier used a lamp by Rico and Rosmarie Baltensweiler and in 1959 they were allowed to make a series of lamps for the well-known manufacturer Knoll International. Despite its success, Baltensweiler remains a family business with relatively small production. In the early 1970s, they developed a new series of lamps that use halogen lamps, a true revolution in the lamp market. The Halo 250 was one of the first lamps with halogen technology in 1972 and is an immediate success. To this day, this lamp can be found in many homes and offices. Later on, Baltensweiler also focused on innovation and introduced LED technology in their lamps as early as 2003. In 2022 Baltensweiler is a progressive and leading lamp manufacturer that combines Swiss precision and quality with leading innovation. Many of their lamps are simple in design, but extremely thought trough and superior in execution. In addition, Swiss craftsmanship is highly valued. Everything - from design to production - is done under one roof. -- Please note: prices are including 21% VAT. Depending on where you live, VAT will be added or not.

Arne Jacobsen AJ Oxford Table Lamp for Louis Poulsen
By Arne Jacobsen
Located in Tilburg, NL
Arne Jacobsen AJ Oxford table lamp 410mm in black and opaline for Louis Poulsen. Designed in 1963, current production. The AJ Oxford Table Lamp has a sleek graphic expression, which reflects the architecture of St Catherine's College, in Oxford, for which it was originally designed. St Catherine's College, inaugurated in 1963, was designed by Arne Jacobsen in a modernist architectural style, which stands in contrast with the surrounding classical architecture of Oxford University. The AJ Oxford Table Lamp was first designed as a table pin lamp for the impressive dining hall at the college, which housed long rows of oak tables, seating 350 people. The table lamps act as centrepieces on the tables, while natural light comes from clerestory windows and the wall-mounted AJ Eklipta provides diffused general lighting. The lamp is still found at St Catherine's College, which is still in use today, both for teaching and as a halls of residence for students. The AJ Oxford lamp...
