About the Item

Deco Glo Studio Greytak’s Deco Glo takes its inspiration from the boldness and hopefulness inherent in the Art Deco style. A glowing pillar of aragonite is carved with geometric precision and displayed on a pedestal of layered bronze, the metal that catapulted humanity into its first true era of civilization. Delicate ripples in the surface of the aragonite, hinting at its transformative energy, contrast with offset bronze bands. Nature’s perfect imprecision is celebrated in the patina on the bronze, softening the ferocity of the metal with a joyful presence. Soothing and energizing at the same time, aragonite is an enigmatic mineral that always surprises. It is chemically identical to calcite with a completely different structure, but it is thermodynamically unstable and can easily alter to calcite. Aragonite can form in cool caves and near hot springs. It is a mineral, and yet it is also produced by biological processes not fully understood. In this form, it is the basis for living and fossilized shells or skeletons of marine creatures as well as the iridescent nacre, or mother-of-pearl, lining the inside of the shells. And, curiously, it is the basis of the shells of the extinct spiraled ammonites, which have chemically transformed into the iridescent ammolite, another form of aragonite. A bit of a shape shifter, aragonite represents the ability to transform and always bring truth to the forefront. Aragonite is an important tool for healers. It radiates energy outward in many directions to create a strong light force that brings a sense of peace and helps heal past wounds. Ancient Sumerians used copper- and tin-rich rocks to build campfire rings. As the stones became heated, the metals melted and mixed, forming the world-changing metal, bronze. Bronze brought tools, weapons, armor, building materials, and a new sense of value to the ancient world. It is often associated with fire because of its reddish color. As an alloy of copper and tin, bronze takes on the properties of both but is generally thought to enhance courage and practicality and encourage focus on work.
