Tole Brass Gold Tone Mid Century Floor Lamp with two Shades
About the Item
This vintage tole lamp is true to form with extras, like the original glass shade diffuser in perfect condition under the metal top shade. But the burnished brass or gold tone finish of this floor lamp makes it the star of the show in any hallway or room. The lamp was manufactured in the U.S. in the 1940s or 1950s. It presents extremely well and stands solid. The lamp is also marked on the bottom of the base: Georgia 10843. It stands 71 inches tall and the base is 13 inches wide and deep. The top shade is 13 and a half inches wide at the bottom rim and 9 and a half inches wide at the top of the shade. The height of the top shade is 6 and 3/4 inches.
This was an irresistible estate sale find. We cannot establish the maker, but the tole "peinte" or painting process on metal lamps and other objects began in the 18th century in Europe to mimc the practice of "Japanned" or gilt painting on metal. The process was practiced in America during the eighteenth century as well.
