About the Item
Late 20th century standard lamp by the Italian glass artist Roberto Giulio Rida. This
unique sculptural piece has a base formed from a large piece of vintage Segusso
glass whilst the shade is vintage Venini. The lamp has an organic quality looking like some strange vine as the brass tendrils wrap around the solid glass nugget base. Sold with a Certificate of Authenticity from
the artist
Roberto Giulio Rida was born in 1943 in Milan. He had few friends as his family were constantly moving, so he sought comfort in collecting objects which gave him great pleasure. His aunt, an educated woman and artist, encouraged him to visit museums, churches and historical sites. Later, he attended the Brera Academy where he was a brilliant student but unfortunately, since his family were not wealthy he was forced to take a series of jobs to survive. After his military service, he began trading in art objects. He moved to Venice as an antique dealer and as a result of a burgeoning interest and fascination with glass objects, he sought out the glass masters of Murano. For eight years he studied with them and learnt their tecniques. In 1973, he returned to Milan, where he specialized in selling 20th Century Design. At the same time he started to create his own fantasies in glass and crystal, creating beautiful unique lighting and furniture pieces. Today Roberto Giulio Rida is a wel known and accomplished and important glass artist, having honed his craft over many years. He creates important works that will stand the test of time.
