1930's Monax Flush Mount Schoolhouse Pendant with Snap on Fitter
About the Item
1930’s Monax flush mount schoolhouse pendant with snap on fitter. Metal fixture with porcelain sockets. Delicate white glass shade, and metal fitter with unusual snap on fitter. As shown in the photos, the outer ring of the fitter slides up, releasing the shade. To secure the shade, when it is in place, lower the outer ring. There are two matching shades, one has a visible “MONAX” mark, on the other the mark is no longer visible.
Monax glass is often confused with milk glass, but is a translucent white glass with a slight bluish hue. It appears more delicate than milk glass. The Macbeth-Evans Glass Company was an American glass company that created almost every type of glass. It was established in 1899 in Pennsylvania, and by the beginning of the 20th Century, it became the largest lamp glass manufacturer in the world. The company was bought by Corning Glass Works in 1936, but it continued to operate as the "Corning Glass Works Macbeth-Evans Division" and then later as the "Macbeth-Evans Division of Corning Glass Works in Charleroi, Pennsylvania.” The plant was sold to World Kitchen in 1998.
Condition: Glass in excellent condition. Fixture cleaned and rewired, with aged finish. Ready to install. US 110-120 volt hardwired. 100 watt max.
