Antique Jos. Lucas King of the Road Model 634 Brass Automobile Kerosene Lantern

About the Item

This antique brass automobile lantern was made by the Jos. Lucas Company of Birmingham England in approximately 1900 in the period Edwardian style. This company was known to make various lanterns for cars and bicycles and many of them were called 'King of the Road'. This example is Model 634 and is made almost entirely of brass except for the kerosene burner. The lantern is very well constructed and the front housing opens and closes as does the red running light housing. The burner twists out from the bottom and there is a brass looped handle at the top and a fixture on the side for securing it to the automobile. The lantern is signed on the base of the burner, the burner knob and on a brass tag riveted to the front of the lantern.
