About the Item

The lanterns are probably made in northern Italy. They are clearly for indoor use, as they would deteriorate in a short time outdoors. Distinctive feature is its considerable size. In fact, they were probably placed in the large lobby of a hotel or palace. Each lantern has eight feet inferiorly in the convergence corners of the panes. At the top of them can be seen eight double-turning spirals that join centrally in a rod. The latter culminates at the top in a large ring that allows them to be hung from the ceiling. The feet underneath suggest alternative use as floor lanterns. The rarity lies in the preservation of the original period yellow glass. Such coloration is functional for light attenuation. The glass panes feature an exquisite diamond pattern. Lanterns can be considered design objects because of their undoubted aesthetic value.
