Pair of Vintage Chinese Carved Wooden Glazed Candle Lanterns, circa 1950

Buyer Protection Guaranteed

A pair of Chinese carved and painted wooden candle lanterns with glass panels, circa 1950, having carved Fu Dogs atop four posts, holding a carved and pierced arabesque floral panel above a glass panel, over another carved and pierced panel, raised on short block legs; decorated in its original red, gold and black paint. The glass panels are removable, held in place by wedge inserts. The lanterns were acquired originally from an antique shop as being 19th century, then sold again as 19th century by a reputable auction gallery. We are more cautious and feel that the lanterns date from the 20th century, perhaps as late as the 1950s. In excellent condition, with some shrinkage scrapes to the paint, as would be expected with age.
