About the Item

Rare Giacomo Benevelli (1925-2011) for Gaetano Missaglia space age light panel of a sculptural chrome knot on a rectangular sheet of satin aluminum. Takes two candelabra size E14 or E12 lightbulbs. Looks best with chrome crown mini-globe bulbs up to 60 watts each. Extremely clean condition. Appears never to have been used. In the mid-1960s, reacting to contemporary social and political upheaval, young Italian architects and designers began developing a new style that openly challenged Modernism. Known as “Radical design,” this movement probed possibilities for visually transforming the urban environment. Radical design’s proponents also applied it to items such as furniture and lighting, utilizing alternative materials and an innovative formal vocabulary. Giacomo Benevelli (1925-2011) was an Italian sculptor who belonged to the Milanese Abstractionism School, but developed his own distinctive language and style. He is recognized as an important representative of the Italian artistic science of the second half of the 21st century.
