About the Item

A small bespoke aluminium vintage industrial wall washer light. These lights were originally aluminium runway markers made by Thorn Lighting. They were used to mark the runways at RAE (Royal Aircraft Establishment) Bedford. Now repurposed into eye catching wall washer lights providing an indirect lighting effect across the wall. A real feature and talking point for any modern interior. They have been restored using vapour honing to clean up the surface which results in a polished aluminium finish. The main body of the lights are cast aluminium, with a stainless steel top plate, there is a prismatic / reeded glass diffuser insert which creates a halo of light around the fixture. Lamp = G9 220v or 110v USA voltage lamps can be sourced on request. RAE Bedford was a research site of the Royal Aircraft Establishment between 1946 and 1994. It was located near the village of Thurleigh, north of the town of Bedford in England and was the site of aircraft experimental development work.A lot of the development for what became the Harrier was done here, one early version became known as the ''Flying Bedstead''. Also Thurleigh had a catapult runway and it was here that the ''ski jump'' later fitted to some aircraft carriers was also developed. The airfield was decommissioned in February 1994 after a lengthy study determined that flight operations should be centralised at Boscombe Down in Wiltshire. All lights are professionally re-wired in-house to exceed British Standards using CE approved components. Dimensions and weights are approximate.
