Antique 18th Century Wall Candle Sconces Appliques Brass Moulded Hammerd Cast

About the Item

These fine wall candle sconces have been handcrafted in the first half of the 18th century out of brass. The appliques have been hammered and chased over an exquisitely carved wooden mould in the shape of an elaborate flower bouquet. The arms for the candles have been cast out of brass and are detachable. The ornamental mould has been fortified by brass cross braces rivetted onto a long thick stipe of brass terminating into an iron thorn. Originally the appliques were created for a church where they were intended to be put into decorative vases or columns carved in relief out of wood. The brass candle holders were exchanged in the last quarter of the 19th century. These higly decorative wall sconces will give a wonderful glow when lit by candles.
