Art Deco Mjolby Intarsia Wall Sconces
About the Item
A whimsical pair of sconces created for candlelight. Always intrigued by the good life; in southern Europe, the Swedes liked portraying happy musicians in costume. The theme of the dancing and playing musicians was often invoked in furnishings for the Gille Stuga, or party area of the home, normally near the bar. Bar cabinets from this period also feature such festive scenes in the intricate inlays of exotic woods such as zebra, Macassar, pear and jacaranda to name a few. The brass decor on either side of the figurines is softly polished to reflect the flame of the candles, amplifying its cosy effect.
