About the Item

Large industrial bulkhead light with prismatic glass insert. Polished steel case and brass fittings with outstanding glass insert full of incredible details. Glass has both an interesting raised section where the light source is placed and then a detail etched section including a W indicating Wigan. The words WIGAN and PRISMATIC are also displayed on the steel casing. Made in Wigan, England circa 1940. Manufactured by Heyes & Company Limited, often referred to as Heyes of Wigan who worked from the Water Heyes Electrical Works in Wigan. The company were renowned for producing electrical switches, lighting and components for the mining and ship industry and responsible for illuminating areas in extreme environments such as the North Sea Oil rigs. The light can be used as either a wall or ceiling fixing and cable can ever the fixing either via the bottom cable entry or entry sections from the rear of the casing. We have had lots of Heyes lighting but have never seen this particular design. When renovating our original reclaimed lighting all existing electrical parts are removed and renewed with modern electrical components. All components used are CE certified and our lights are wired & tested in line with BSEN Standards. As standard our lights come with 1m of our premium fabric three core cable to a colour of your choice unless stated otherwise in the product description. Generally, ES or BS lamp holders are used unless otherwise stated and are fully compatible with main dimmers and modern LED filament bulbs. Our lights can be wired to bespoke specifications, longer lengths, different cable types and compatibility with specialist dimming systems such as DALI can all be accommodated. Lights supplied to U.S.A and Canada are installed using UL Certified cable and lamp holders. As standard we supply round black fabric cable and E26 holders can be installed on request. Please note that although we use UL certified components our original reclaimed lights do not come with UL certification. Due to the antique nature of our original vintage lights, we cannot offer an official IP rating and cannot guarantee our lights for external use.
