About the Item

Anonymous United States of America; 20th century Giltwood and gilt iron, glass Approximate size: 44 (h) x 14 (w) x 10 (d) in. A beautiful pair of Federalist style giltwood wall sconces with bursting tendrils and spiraling arms. The sconces feature centralized eagles seated upon acanthi plinths with a narrow ribbon serving as the column, surmounted by a fluted ribbon. These intricately carved wall sconces were made in a workshop of talented artisans and though evidently American in motif, could have equally been the product of an Italian workshop. Condition commensurate with age. Minor chips and losses to the gilding. A possible restoration or repair along one of the extending arms. Wiring still good.
