Franco Buzzi for O-Luce Wall Light in Brass and Aluminum

About the Item

Franco Buzzi for O-Luce, wall light, model 'B3', brass and aluminum, Italy, 1949 Exceptional Italian wall-mounted wall-light 'B3' by Franco Buzzi for O-Luce. This unique piece is extendable and adjustable in height by means of the use of an elegant counterweight in solid brass. A nice detail are the perforated holes on the aluminum shade around the pendant holder. The shade creates a soft light partition and spreads a nice warm and diffuse light. This B 3 wall arm lamp is one of Buzzi's first designs for O-Luce and a widely appreciated design. Franco Buzzi was an Italian architect, furniture and lighting designer. Buzzi is particularly known for his postwar lightning designs and his collaboration with fellow Italian designer Giuseppe Ostuni. Born in 1912 in Milan, Buzzi studied at the Politecnico di Milano. After his graduation in 1937, he worked as an architect and interior designer in Milan. In a short period of time, Buzzi 's interiors, with its warm and soft tones, were highly appreciated. Furthermore, Buzzi was appointed Assistant Professor for Interior Design at the Milan Polytechnic from 1939 to 1942. A few years after the war in 1949, Buzzi opened an architect studio in the Brera district in Milan, which was a popular neighborhood for artists and intellectuals. Here he met Giuseppe Ostuni whom he became friends with and soon Buzzi started to create his first lamps for Ostuni's company‘O-LUCE’, which was established in 1945 and nowadays Italy´s oldest design studio. One of the first models are the ´Faretto´ lamp, the B 2 headlight and the B 3 wall arm lamp. Different variants of the B 3 occur, such as the pendant model. Buzzi´s lighting designs became a prime example of good taste and sophisticated furnishing. Please note that this piece is in good, used condition.

Tito Agnoli for O-Luce, wall light, white lacquered metal, teak, cord, brass, plastic, Italy, 1957. Impressive wall mounted light designed by Tito Agnoli, and manufactured by O-Luce. Unique for this item is the combination of elements derived from the 177 A model, designed in 1957, and the 1102 model, designed in 1959. Its arm is an 177 A design and executed in teak, lacquered metal and brass. It features a '1102' pendant hanging on a cord. The cord, directed by a brass tube attached to the wooden arm, leads down where a brass cylinder functions as a counterweight. The brass cylinder keeps the pendant in its position. The design showcases the mechanicals of the lamp, which makes this a very raw yet refined light that would work very well in the living room or as an office light...
