About the Item
Polished Bronze Berry Wall Light
The polished Bronze Berry lamp is an homage to an age-old tradition that still functions as a beautiful and delicate piece of functional art today. My goal was to emulate this by crafting it by hand in wax and then casting it according to the lost wax method in Bronze—a process of endless sanding, polishing, and buffing.
Intrigued by organic shapes and natural materials, I also saw a resemblance to the outlines of a tactile Berry fruit with its conical pattern
originating thousands of years ago in Asia.
The Beauty of Imperfections
In nature, imperfections hold a unique beauty. Take the blackberry, for example; it may appear to have a perfect, conical shape, but upon closer inspection, you'll notice an irregular pattern that gives each berry its distinct character. Inspired by this, I embraced and exaggerated the asymmetry, creating my Irregular, Imperfect Berry Lamps. True perfection lies in maximising variety rather than symmetry. Each lamp is made as one-of-a-kind, following no specific pattern; instead, I craft it based on my intuition.
During the creation process, I navigate through irregularly shaped balls to achieve an organic unity, much like how animals adapt to their natural environments.
It is a work of art, but functional and tactile, with light rays radiating from below and above.
