Henry Mouynet French Art Deco Pair of Wall Sconces, 1920s

About the Item

French Art Deco pair of wall sconces by MOUYNET (Paris), France, late 1920s. Thick frosted molded glass shades with a stylized Art Deco pattern by Schneider for Mouynet. Wrought-iron fixtures. Height : 7.1"(18m), Width : 13.6"(34.5cm), Depth : 3.9"(10cm). Signed "Mouynet" on a shade (see photo). Delivered wired for your country usage (EU, US, Australia, China, etc). Henry Mouynet, manufacturer of metal lighting (11 rue Etienne Marcel-prolonged, Paris) was one of the largest producers of metal interbellum lighting, alongside companies such as Hettier-Vincent, Schneider and Petitot in Paris and Cherpion in Nancy. Both Schneider and Degué made several molded-pressed shades for him that were signed H.Mouynet or J.Mouynet. He had a large Parisian company working mainly in a neoclassical style, but he also made Art Deco wall sconces and chandeliers. In 1926, he built a huge building at 11 rue Etienne Marcel Prolongé (now rue Roger Verlomme). After the crisis, he was forced to sell it. H. Markhbeinn, whose business was to import and distribute bohemian glasses from eastern Europe, bought the place in 1937.

Max le Verrier was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, near Paris, in 1891. During his studies in Switzerland, he met the sculptors Pierre le Faguays and Marcel Bouraine, who became close friends and with whom he collaborated for a large part of his life. After completing his studies, the Verrier returned to France in 1919 and founded his own workshop in Paris. It was during this time that he created his first popular sculpture - the famous "Pelican" - which was the first in a long line of animal figures that bore his name. Le Verrier received a gold medal for his sculptures at the Exposition des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels in Paris in 1925 (the famous exhibition from which the term "Art Deco" was derived). In 1926, Le Verrier opened his own foundry, casting pieces for a wide range of French sculptors of the time, including Pierre Le Faguays, Marcel Bouraine, Janle, Denis and Charles...
