Biography :
Jean Allemand is a French painter, sculptor and designer born in Toulon on July 21, 1948.
He is known as co-founder of the Space group.
Jean Allemand moved to Paris in 1967. After studying mathematics and working for IBM, he became interested in the representation of space. From 1970 onwards, he took part in various art fairs, and it was at the “Grands et Jeunes d'aujourd'hui” fair in 1972 that he met Maxime Defert and Michel Guéranger, who shared his interest in the representation of space.
At the end of 1974, he co-founded Space with Maxime Defert and Michel Guéranger, whose style was then described as fantastic geometric abstraction.
At the time, he was working with an Aérographe, which was new in the art world.
His aim was to erase the brushstroke and give his creations a more photographic, geometric look.
At the time, Jean Allemand confided that the space he sought to represent was more interior, and that his paintings were meditative.
From 1984 onwards, his interest in three-dimensionality led him to design furniture, followed by interiors from 1988 onwards.
His furniture production includes the table and chairs for the 1 p.m. news broadcast on TF1, France's number-one channel, for the famous presenter Yves Mourousi.
