His father, Grand Duke Boris Vladimirovich, born in 1877 at Saint-Petersburg, was the third child and second surviving son among the five children of Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovitch of Russia (brother of Czar Alexander III) and his wife Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna. In 1901, Grand Duke went to France and had a liaison with a Frenchwoman, Jeanne Aumont-Lacroix. The child, Jean-Boris Lacroix, born in 1902, was not recognized. Jean-Boris and his two sons will visit regularly Grand Duke Boris once this one be installed in Paris. Jean-Boris Lacroix truly began his career in 1920 when he entered the workshop of Paul Dumas. He completed his formation by working as a drawer for the fashion designer, Madeleine Vionnet. He created for her, from 1925-1930, the design of her various houses. In this period, he met and worked with J. M. Frank, Pierre Chareau and Jean Dunand, but he also created furniture himself. From his numerous creations, the lightings were the most famous. In 1927, already, during his participation to the ‘Salon des Artistes Décorateurs’ and to the ‘Salon d’Automne’, he presented some lightings which immediately seduced the public: his perfect use of glass and metal, fitted to chandelier, sconces and lamps. Jean-Boris Lacroix died in 1984.
