Large Pair of Maria Theresa Style Crystal 7-Light Wall Sconces, Italy, Circa 1950s
An impressive pair of Italian Maria Theresa-style crystal wall sconces, circa 1950s, notable for their grand scale and refined detailing. Each sconce measures 30 inches high by 14 inches wide by 8 inches deep.
The gilt iron frames are richly beaded with clear glass, scrolling outward into seven candle arms, each fitted with scalloped glass bobeches and adorned with drops of faceted crystal. Cascading swags of bead-chain and teardrop prisms enhance the sparkle, creating an elegant interplay of light and reflection.
The Maria Theresa style takes its name from Empress Maria Theresa of Austria and the monumental chandelier commissioned for her palace in the mid-18th century. Adapted in Italy during the mid-20th century, these sconces embody that same regal sophistication, marrying Rococo curves with crystal brilliance.
Measurements: 30” high × 14” wide × 8” deep (each).
Condition: Very good vintage condition with age-appropriate patina; presently wired with inline switches, easily converted to hardwire.
