About the Item
Pair of Hand-Carved Giltwood Five-Light Wall Sconces
A dramatic and sculptural pair of wall sconces, each crafted from richly patinated and hand-carved wood fragments with traces of old silver and gold gilt over an aged gesso ground. Likely originating from Italy or Spain, these sconces have been converted from antique altar elements or baluster fragments into five-arm wall sconces, exuding a timeworn grandeur and ecclesiastical charm.
Each sconce features five candle-style lights with faux wax candle sleeves, arranged around a central turned and tiered column. The backplates are squared and aged with visible surface craquelure, further enhancing their antique authenticity. The wood surfaces display beautiful layers of original paint and gilding, worn and distressed with a pleasing, ghostly patina.
