About the Item

A rare pair of wall lights in ceramic designed by Helmut Schäffenacker and produced by Atelier Schäffenacker in the 60's. The style can be best described as brutalist. A matching pair in beautiful shades of grey, brown and green. The light shines through the cutouts projecting playful shadows on the wall. A stunning piece of lighting art! Helmut Schäffenacker (1921 - 2010) was a German sculptor, painter and ceramist. He was born in Ulm, as son of painter Otto Schäffenacker. In 1949, he completed an apprenticeship with the sculptor Rudolf Pauschinger in Stuttgart. After studying art and trained as a painter and sculptor in the early 1950s, he founded his own studio, the "Atelier Schäffenacker" in Ulm. From 1948 he also started to work with ceramics. Schäffenacker received a variety of national and international prizes for his ceramic work throughout his career. Justus Engelfried wrote: "The individual objects are outstanding works of German and international ceramic design. The entire ceramic work of the designer and artist Schäffenacker is probably unparalleled worldwide." In 1975 he wins the 1st prize in the XXXIII concorso internazionale della ceramica d’arte contemporeana in Faenza and the Premio camera de Ravenna. In 2006 a book was published about the artist and his work to mark the occasion of his 85th birthday.

Condition:
Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. The condition of this piece is very good with no cracks, scratches or damages bar a small tip that is missing (hardly noticeable, see photo). Checked and in working order. They each hold a E27 silver mirror bulb (led or conventional - excluded-).
