Pair of Early 19th Italian Carved Polychrome and Gilt Sconces
About the Item
A handsome and monumentally scaled pair of Italian early 19th century Baroque st. polychrome and giltwood sconces. Each impressive sconce is centered by a richly carved pierced bottom foliate design below striking large scrolled foliate movements leading up each side. The elegantly scrolled single arms are adorned with richly carved acanthus leaves and display mottled circular candle cups with fine reeded bands. The backplates display striking finely detailed central giltwood reserves of tied laurel wreaths amidst leaves framed within mottled borders. The superb pierced top crowns display additional scrolled foliate movements centering the impressive palmette shaped top reserves. All original gilt and patina throughout.
