Pair of Louis XVI Style Neoclassical Two-Light Gilt Bronze Wall Sconces
Made in Belgium, Circa 1900s
A finely cast and richly detailed pair of Louis XVI-style two-arm wall sconces, made in Belgium in the early 20th century. These neoclassical fixtures showcase the opulence and symmetry typical of the French Louis XVI tradition, with crisp ornamentation, elegant profiles, and sculptural bronze forms.
Each sconce features a tall, tapering backplate adorned with acanthus leaf motifs, beaded borders, and stylized floral elements. At the crest, an exuberant plume of radiating anthemion and foliate scrolls adds a dramatic flourish. The two candle arms curve outward in volutes, terminating in hexagonal bobeches with finely chased detailing. Below, the design is anchored with a bold foliate pendant echoing the classical vocabulary of the piece.
Retaining their original gilt finish, the sconces display a mellow antique patina with natural darkening in recessed areas that highlights the relief. The backs are marked “Made in Belgium,” affirming their origin, and they have been professionally rewired for modern use with standard candelabra sockets.
