About the Item

A pair of Regency style Maison Bagues three branch wall sconce or wall lights, each with splays of flowerheads on top, its back plate issuing three S-shaped candle arms hang with drops and beautifully arranged crystal flowers. Since its establishment in 1860, the Maison Bagues has been an emblem of French sophistication in luxury lighting design. The master metalsmith Noe¨l Bague's founded the company as specialists in liturgical bronzes, but by 1880 the company had expanded into the production of bronze light fixtures in response to the development of electrical lighting. Carried on by Noe¨l’s son Euge'ne and grandsons Victor and Robert, Maison Bague's continued to progress. Noted for their high end handcrafted work, such as complex carved sconces and hand-strung crystal chandeliers, Maison Bague's appealed to an elite clientele. Its products have been featured in luxury hotels like Paris's George V, and the Savoy in London. There is a further identical pair of Maison Bagues wall sconce available on 1stdibs. Early 18th century French regence love symbol giltwood mirror. An early 18th century Regence giltwood mirror with a rectangular plate (17.72 in. x 13.38 in.) within a conforming frame adorned with a carved ionic egg-and-dart border and interlaced scrolls, acanthus, foliate and trellis cartouches with foliage on a diapered background. The impressive arched crest depicting a trophy of a burning torch, a bow, and a lyra symbolising love on the same diapered background as the frame. The trophy is surmounted by an arch shaped top with a crowing shell motif. Frame and arched crest are fitting together in size, design and finish, the burnished water gilded carvings are in interplay with the matte oil gilded gesso carved background.
