A rare set of 6 Early 20th Century French hand forged iron wall sconces attributed to Gilbert Poillerat. These stunning Spanish Colonial style hand forged wrought iron sconces are skillfully hand-forged, have a very versatile design and a beautiful patina. At the end of each arm blooms an ornamental bobêche (drip pan) and electrified candle mount. These French iron wall sconces attributed to Gilbert Poillerat will enhance any room or covered exterior space and are sure to make a dramatic statement. The white candles atop each sconce emit a warm, ambient glow, creating a soothing and inviting atmosphere. About the designer: Gilbert Poillerat (1902-1988) Gilbert Poillerat is one of the most renowned French designer and wrought iron master of the 20th Century. He studied engraving at the Ecole Boulle in Paris and started then his career at Edgar Brandt’s studio as a designer and model-maker. Inspired by historical architecture and design, Poillerat imagined elegant objects and furniture. Rarely signed, they are unique for their perfect proportions and very distinctive personal style. Poillerat designed and produced grillework, tables, chairs, consoles, screens, lighting and firedogs. He also created altars, communion screens, candelabra and gates for various churches and a synagogue. He was similarly involved in the design of luxury French ocean liners such as the SS Normandie and SS France.

These wall lights have a wonderful provenance, they originate from the legendary, elegant and renowned boutique Hotel Nord Pinus in Arles, France. These were discovered in the attic covered in dust yet were in perfect antique condition. Newly refinished and rewired. The French Art Deco style is very sophisticated. This exquisite set of 5 hand forged iron sconces by Rene Drouet will enhance any setting whether Art Deco, Spanish Colonial or Hacienda style, Mid-20th Century, contemporary, traditional or another theme. They would work well in a formal living room, bedroom or wonderful flanking a doorway or entry. In very good refinished condition. Dimensions: Largest double armed sconce measures: 12 1/2" High x 22" Wide x 6 1/4" Deep 4 single armed sconce measures: 12 3/8" High x 9 3/8" Wide x 12" Deep Provenance Hotel Nord Pinus in Arles, France and some its history: Nord Pinus, is located across the Café de la Nuit, immortalised by Van Gogh and five minutes from the Van Gogh’s Foundation (started by the late father of Maja Hoffmann). “The Place du Forum was called “La Place des Hommes”, where independent workers would come to get hired for jobs in Camargue. Later in the 1950s, Nello a clown and Germaine a cabaret singer turned the historic building overseeing Arles’ central square into a hotel for artists.
