About the Item

A set of polished bronze, milk glass and Lucite hanging sconces with open back and two bulb sockets. Priced as a set of four; contact us to purchase a pair. USA, circa 1950. A rare form, these pendant sconces made from solid, bronze, milk glass and Lucite are the only ones of their kind that we have been able to find. Custom made in 1957 for the renovation of a cinematic theater in Sidney, New York, they have been hanging there ever since. Could this be the custom work of Perzel? The unusual form makes them even more dramatic. The lights were meant to be hung 4-10 inches from the wall. With the back side exposed it creates a bust of light on the surface behind it while the Lucite central floating slab glows around the edges and the slits in the lower section also glow with the light coming through the milk glass insert in the lower section. All retain the original ceiling caps. The bodies measure 26 inches in height but with the ceiling mount poles vary in height from 6.6 feet to 8 feet. The poles can easily be shortened as they are solid brass.
