About the Item

Pair of brass wall sconces with opaline glass ball diffusers; each one has a lamp holder inside; the particular and practical brass structure allows to divide the light and distribute it up and down with a delicate and pleasant effect; on the back of each sphere there is a sturdy rectangular brass plate from which the electrical wires connected to the internal lamp holder come out; on the plates there are the holes to position them on the wall; to access the holes the sphere must be removed and the brass structure must be slightly rotated, when the appliques are firmly fixed to the wall both the structure and the glass can be put back in place. The wall sconces, built between 1960 and 1963 are in perfect Stilnovo Diabolo style, a product 100% made in Italy. Founded in Milan by Bruno Gatta, in 1946, Stilnovo was for years the most important reality in the world of lighting equipment design. It was a laboratory and a hotbed of ideas during the post-war reconstruction and the following economic Boom. Stilnovo triggered interest from the historical publication “Domus”, to become an essential point of reference for prestigious names in Italian design, such as Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Joe Colombo, Danilo and Corrado Aroldi, Roberto Beretta, Antonio Macchi Cassia, De Pas D’Urbino Lomazzi Studio, Ettore Sottsass, Cini Boeri and Gae Aulenti who designed memorable pieces for this small Milanese company. What characterizes Stilnovo, in the 1950s, is the production and marketing of lamps with a particular cone shape. At the time designed by the Centro Stile Interno, they became unique pieces. True symbols of the elegance of the 1950s-1960s. In fact, they left an indelible mark on the design and fashion industry. The brass parts show slight signs of the time, but this guarantees its age and authenticity. Warning: the electrical system is new but the wiring is European, the compatibility of the voltage in other states must always be verified before use. Measures: Diameter cm. 14, depth cm. 17.
